From Garment to Pattern: Reverse Engineering Your Favorite Garment
Hosted by Sew Sauce, sabina
What to expect
Aross three 2-hour classes, you’ll:
Draft and adjust a pattern from a garment you bring in
Sew a mock-up (muslin) to test the fit and make refinements
Construct a final version in your desired fabric
You’ll leave with a fully wearable garment and a custom pattern you can reuse again and again.
Ideal for confident sewists who are comfortable using a sewing machine and want to deepen their pattern-making skills.
Materials List (What to Bring to Class)
1. The Garment You Want to Replicate
Choose a simple, well-fitting item (no stretch fabrics, minimal lining, or heavy tailoring if it’s your first time replicating).
Tops, shirts, skirts, and pants with basic seams are ideal.
Make sure it's something you don’t mind handling and pinning (no heirlooms or delicate vintage pieces, please!).
2. Fabric for Your Final Garment
Bring 1.5 to 3 yards, depending on the original garment. (Optional)
Fabric should be similar in drape and structure to the original piece.
Pre-washed is recommended if it’s washable fabric.
